HOLA America: Book Virtual Discussion
On October 1, the Midwest-based multi-media company HOLA America, consulting firm Carmona Strategic Solutions, and the Iowa Chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) hosted a virtual conversation on the book, focusing on the roles played by LULAC, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), and UnidosUS (formerly the National Council of La Raza) played in shaping the last, historic round of immigration reforms. On September 21, 2020, the author was featured at the 17th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference sponsored by the Migration Policy Institute, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, and Georgetown Law School speaking about the historical precedents for some of the Trump Administration’s executive actions on immigration. National Geographic: Blood on the Wall Panel Discussion
On September 20, the author joined award-winning documentary producer-directors Sebastian Junger and Nick Quested, LULAC CEO Sindy Benavides, former Mexican Ambassador to the US Arturo Sarukhan, former New York Times reporter Julia Preston, and ABC News White House Correspondent Cecilia Vega for a panel discussion following the world premiere of the upcoming National Geographic documentary Blood on the Wall. The film traces the roots of two intertwined phenomena – Mexican drug trafficking cartels and instability in Central America – that underlie the crisis at the US southern border.
