An event at the National Press Club on October 8—a discussion of the book with Greg Sargent of the “The Plum Line” blog in the Washington Post—was aired on C-SPAN’s “Book TV” on Sunday, November 2. You can view it by clicking here.

The book was featured at an event cosponsored by the Colorado Latino Leadership, Advocacy and Research Organization (CLLARO) and the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado in Denver on October 23.

At the National Immigrant Integration Conference in Detroit, Michigan, the book was discussed as part of a special session on October 21 before a packed room of participants. Accompanying Charles on the Panel were Petra Falcon, from Promise Arizona, who spoke of her experience in Arizona with the implementation of the 1986 law, and Anna Marie Gallagher, who is now with Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), an organization affiliated with the Catholic Church, which was spawned from the IRCA implementation work. She spoke of her experience as a young attorney whose Central American clients suddenly had a path to legal status thanks to IRCA’s legalization program. The program was moderated by Nancy Flores with the National Partnership of New Americans, organizers of the conference. Walmart provided books to attendees of the special session.

At the same conference, Wells Fargo hosted a reception and book signing for the author.

The book was featured at a discussion between the author and Washington Post columnist Greg Sargent at the National Press Club on October 8 at an event sponsored by Mandel Vilar Press, Americas For Conservation + the Arts (AFCA), the Latino Farmers and Ranchers Association, and Mickey Ibarra & Associates.

On October 3 author discussed the book via an interview by former Obama Domestic Policy Advisor and NCLR/UnidosUS Senior Vice President Cecilia Munoz at UnidosUS.

There was a “fireside chat”with the author and UnidosUS Deputy Vice President Clarissa Martinez De Castro on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at the UnidosUS Annual Conference in San Diego, California.

 The book was discussed at a meeting of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in Washington, DC, on July 19, 2019, and below you can find a video recording of that event.

There was a good turnout on a Sunday afternoon (June 30, 2019) to listen to a discussion of the book at Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington, DC.

On June 26, 2019, the Migration Policy Institute hosted a panel to discuss the book and the lessons it contains. The author was joined by other veterans of the debate that led to the passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act. They discussed the elements that led to passage of the bill, both personal and political, the intended and unintended consequences of the legislation, and what lessons of that time might be applied to today’s immigration reform debate.
